League City Blog: You are making me go to a meeting about WHAT???

You are making me go to a meeting about WHAT???

My office has a meeting every week where we all get together, watch a presentation, and then tour the new listings from our office. Most weeks, the presentation is about something real estate related like a presentation from an appraiser, home stager, inspector, representative from local business organizations, etc. A couple of weeks ago, I walked into my office meeting and saw someone with a candle display set up, and I nearly walked out the door.

I mean....seriously...a presentation about candles??? I stayed for the meeting because I wanted to go on the tour, but I was skeptical about the amount of my time that was being wasted listening to someone trying to sell me candles. Much to my amazement, the presentation actually showed me a product I had never heard of that I actually anticipate being helpful in my business.

The presentation was given be a representative of Scentsy wickless candles. A Scentsy is basically a light bulb that heats up and melts scented wax to add fragrance to a room. The product is great for homes with odors because it doesn't have the danger of a candle flame or the cheesy scent of a plug in air freshener. It can be plugged in for showings or even put on a timer in a vacant house since it plugs into the wall to power the light bulb.

I know this is probably old news to most of the female readers out there, but I plan on getting one to use in some of my listings, so I thought I would pass along the info in case some other agents out there had never heard of it either.

Good for you for hanging in there, Brian!  Yes, Scentsy candles are hot right now.  I know several agents who sell them.  They really are a good product.

Interesting as I was recently contacted by a rep from this company.  While I understand wanting to potentially mask odors in a home, I don't recommend doing it with candles, sprays or other items.  Clean, clean and clean smells best. There are so many people with allergies that some scents can set them off.  I do think this would be a good gift for Agents to give their buyers though.

Brian,

Nice post!  Honestly, it's hard to have time for all the meetings.  I've been looking for the right product that will give a "clean" smell while not offending sensitive smellers, like myself.  Some scents can turn people off, and for me some things are overwhelming.  I don't use scents currently for that reason.

Thanks for the info.  I get emails all the time for these candles and didn't know what they were.  I'll have to take a closer look.

I haven't heard of these either. I also suggest clean, clean, clean before any other course of action. I actually use lamp begere which does not cause problems for people with asthma that I know of.

Michelle makes a good point. Many people have allergies to almost any kind of scent. It is also possible to put off as many people as you attract with any given scent.

If you do decide to go ahead make sure to use the product in your own home first. See what it is like after a few hours and get used to the strength control etc.

That being said your enthusiasm is SO adorable.

Glad you stayed, Brian.

I became a Scentsy rep in January of this year.  I signed on under a high school friend of mine.  I'd never heard of the product before I saw her promoting it on Facebook.  I had NEVERtried it.  I intended to just buy some from her to check it out, but something nagged at me to sign on as a consultant, so I did.  Then I sent her a message telling her to check her Scentsy, because she didn't know I'd signed up.

AWESOME is the word that I hear over and over from people used to describe this product.

There are a variety (80) of scents to chose from, some having a clean, crisp smell, which shouldn't bother those suffering from smell allergies.

I've noticed that the scents seem to be an attitude adjuster.  Seems like shortly after being in a room that's lightly fragranced, everyone seems to be in a better mood.  It's great for potential buyers, because when they walk into a home, the scent seems to bring a calm over them, and they'll feel really comfortable in that home, and may want to buy it.

I went to an Open House that an agent I knew was holding.  The house had been closed up and had a musty smell to it.  She asked me to help her out, even though we don't work together anymore, by opening windows and doors to help air the place out.  The house was a few blocks away from my home, so I ran home and got a warmer and put a bar in, and within a half hour or so, the home smelled wonderful.

And, Brian, I know candles aren't usually thought of as masculine, but, once men smell them, they become fans and order products, not for the women in their lives, but for themselves!

Brian, you are right about the Scentsy Wickless Candles being a wonderful tool you can use in your business.  There are many agents that swear they get a contract the day they begin using Scentsy in the showing.  We have all heard stories of agents that baked cookies to use in their open houses.  Well, that isn't needed anymore.  Scentsy has a Sugar Cookie scent that works perfect in the kitchen.  We also have a Clean Breeze scent that is great for the bathrooms.

Don't worry about scent sensitive people or those with allergies, as Scentsy does not burn the wax, and no toxins or soot is being released into the air.  That is the usual triggers for those with asthma and allergies.  Scentsy is completely safe!  My agent gives them to all her clients at the closing table for the closing gifts.  She gives a neutral plug-in Scentsy warmer along with scents such as "Welcome Home" and "Home Sweet Home".  Not only does this gift last much longer than a restaurant gift card, but the client will think of the agent every time they use it (which is almost daily in most cases).  Every time they walk in their great smelling home, they will think of the agent!

If anyone needs more information on the above ideas, or other ways you can use Scentsy as a marketing tool in your real estate business, then please let me know.
